Autism Outreach Services

Saturday clubs for children with autism

Here to open doors in Oban.

"The staff are brilliant and are always caring and understanding. The club provides a well earned rest for parents and lets my child socialise with others."

The Oban Saturday Club

Established in 2005 as a collaboration between Oban Parents for Children with Autism (OPCA), Argyll and Bute Council and Scottish Autism. The club meets at the Lorne Resource Centre and supports eight children and young people.

As part of our innovative approach to respite and short breaks we have developed a service for children that is adaptable and flexible in line with
the young person's ever changing needs. We concentrate on the areas affected by autism by developing social interaction, communication skills
and flexibility of thought through a variety of activities and opportunities.
The activities include group work and peer group sessions, music therapy, physical activities, arts & crafts, community outings, and free play in a fun, enjoyable and safe environment.

The club has given children and young people the opportunity to be supported using a person-centred approach with qualified and knowledgeable staff who can implement and maintain a quality service in a structured environment whilst addressing their individual needs.

All staff are trained and supported by Scottish Autism and this ensures high standards and good practice are always maintained.

For more information, please contact the Service Manager, Kerry Ross on 0845 300 9277.

Fife and Tayside Outreach children’s services

A small staff team of practitioners and support workers provide outreach support to children and young people from their own homes across Fife. Children range in age from 8 years to teen age. Support is flexible and based around the needs of the child or young person to fit in around school, and community based activities. Respite for parents is also provided where required. Children participate in a variety of activities with support like bowling, swimming and visits to the cinema as well as participating in activities to encourage independence and socialising.

Excellent links are maintained with schools and health professionals to ensure a multi disciplinary approach and to ensure the individual needs of each child are met appropriately.
