Review: James Martin - Plates, Mates and Automobiles!

Sarah Dickinson

Sarah Dickinson is supported in our Lothian and Borders Service and recently went to see James Martin’s new show ‘Plates, Mates and Automobiles’. Here is her review:

My name is Sarah Dickinson and I receive support from Scottish Autism’s Lothian and Borders Outreach Service. I am a huge fan of James Martin and Saturday Kitchen. I have been lucky enough to watch James’ demonstrations at the Good Food Show (which I also blogged about last year). I have even met him and had my photo taken with him three times! I was excited to get tickets for his new tour ‘Plates, Mates and Automobiles’.

My thoughts on the gig were that it was great from start to finish. When I arrived at the Usher Hall with my Support Worker I independently bought a signed programme from the stand. There was lots of memorabilia to pick from. I really like the programme as it has lots of good recipes.

Johnny Vegas was the voiceover and he introduced James to the stage. When he arrived on stage he told his fans that he was leaving Saturday Kitchen after 10 years.

The gig was split into two parts. In the first part he made five dishes and in the second part he made four dishes. These included cooked blowtorched mackerel, a salmon ring mousse and butternut squash soup with lime.

There was a surprise at the end of the gig where James came back onto the stage accompanied by his guitar instructor and sang a song; Live Forever by Oasis.

The show was great! I gave it 10/10.
