A Showstopping Performance

A group of individuals we support in our Central Area Services recently put on a fantastic musical theatre performance! The musical theatre group formed after one of the individuals we support and some of our staff were given the opportunity to attend the Autism and Arts Symposium in Iowa last year. Upon seeing the wonderful work happening in other countries, the team decided to create a new group in our services here which would allow creativity to flourish.

The group meet once a week for rehearsals and over the past few months they have been working hard on preparing the show. Each individual was given the chance to choose a song they wanted to have featured, which although did bring a bit of a mixed bag, the team managed to pull it all together with a narrative and ‘The Witch, The Wizard and The Dancing Queen’ was born. Some of the songs chosen included Dancing Queen by Abba, Let It Go from the Frozen soundtrack, Supercalifragilistic from Mary Poppins and Flower of Scotland!

On the night of the show, lots of family, friends and Scottish Autism staff gathered to see the group do their first ever public performance. The show was a hit and it was clear to everyone just how much passion and enthusiasm had gone into the night. There was a mix of group dances and songs as well as some special solo performances too.

A huge well done to everyone – we’re already looking forward to the next show!
