Scottish Autism

Enabling people living with autism in Scotland through the whole life journey

Autism Social Independence Group

Scottish Autism has been successful in securing funding to establish a new social group for adults with high functioning autism.

The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm – 9.00pm initially in Autism Resource Centre, 17d North High Street, Musselburgh, although as the group develops we hope to encourage the group meeting for specific activities elsewhere.

The aim of this group is to provide a forum for individuals with high functioning autism to meet and participate in social activities.

The group is facilitated by Scottish Autism staff, who will enable and encourage individuals to develop friendships, explore new opportunities and develop independence and confidence.

It is hoped individuals who attend the group will develop and maintain their own social connections which will lead to full and active roles within their community.

Individuals attending the group choose and are consulted on the range of activities available.

Suggestions to date include:  Gamers Night, Art Therapy, Ten Pin Bowling, Cinema, Christmas and New Year Celebrations, Panto, Photography, Aromatherapy and Fire Safety.

Information on proposed activities can be accessed through the Scottish Autism Facebook page or by contacting Victoria Jackson on 0845 300 9274 or at Victoria.Jackson@scottishautism.org
