Scottish Autism

Enabling people living with autism in Scotland through the whole life journey

 Autism Training & Events

Our training events create an excellent opportunity for networking with parents and professionals.

"I wish I had this training years ago. It has definitely widened my understanding of sensory issues in autism.”

Scottish Autism offers a range of autism training events throughout the year. We consistently attract internationally recognised speakers with autism expertise and a diverse range of professionals from health, education, social care, therapeutic and research backgrounds contribute to our programme of professional development and training in autism.

This creates opportunities for parents and professionals to engage with current thinking on a range of issues. Our events are consistently positively evaluated by participants.

When asked if they would recommend our training service to others, 96% of evaluation respondents at our most recent event said 'yes'.

Knowledge Share Events

Disseminating our developing knowledge of autism and effective practice is a key organisational objective.  The Knowledge Share series augments the work we already do in training and at our national conferences.  The aim of the events is to create a forum where we can communicate with parents and professionals. We will deliver informed, practical information on a range of issues that directly impact on the quality of life and well being of individuals on the spectrum and their families.

Who should attend

The events will be of interest to parents, carers and all professionals working in the field of autism.

Benefits

Participants will benefit from the opportunity to hear Scottish Autism’s professionals present case studies of real life situations from an education, autism service and family perspective providing delegates with the knowledge and practical strategies used to resolve situations. The event will offer a platform for sharing experiences and networking with other parents and professionals in the field.

Bespoke Training

Our autism advisors also offer a bespoke training service. We will work with you to develop tailored events that respond to the specific needs of your organisation and the individuals you support. This may range from introduction level training on the autism spectrum to specific issues such as enabling effective transitions, supporting behaviour or developing life and independence skills.

Our expertise can help you to broaden and deepen the knowledge base of staff within your service, organisation or local authority area.

Training Approval

In partnership with The National Centre for Autism Studies at the University of Strathclyde, Scottish Autism undertook a project to develop a system of approval for trainers who provide professional development and training in autism.

The outcome of this project is the development of a Scottish Qualifications Authority customised award. The “Approved Autism Trainer Award” is currently being developed. When completed it will offer a formally recognised qualification for those who provide training related to autism. We aim to develop a national network of qualified trainers with a view to driving up standards in training throughout Scotland and eventually on a global scale. We welcome notes of interest at this stage and will be in touch when the award is available.
