Celebrating our 50th Anniversary
2018 marks 50 years since the founding of Scottish Autism. Established in 1968 by a group of parents, we are now the largest provider of autism-specific services in Scotland and a leading authority and advocate for good autism practice.
Throughout this milestone year, we are delighted to celebrate our past, present and future with many exciting events. This includes our 50th Anniversary Conference; local celebrations at our services throughout Scotland; 50 Fundraising Events; Ladies Lunch and art exhibitions.
To commemorate this fantastic milestone, we have also created a timeline to reflect our history, along with some shared stories sent in by staff, supported individuals and their families.
The History of Scottish Autism
Andrew Lester is a member of our Board and is the parent of a young autistic adult, Amy. During our 50th Anniversary Conference in November, Andrew provided a speech at our celebratory dinner where he shared some of his favourite stories and what Scottish Autism means to him.
Celebrate our 50th Anniversary with us!
Our aim is to reach the 1 in 100 people living with autism and we are delighted to launch our 50th anniversary fundraising appeal to raise £50,000 to support our Autism Advice Line. The Autism Advice Line relies solely on donations and last year our dedicated team of advisors handled over 1,900 calls offering a direct first response to individuals and families often in crisis looking for information, advice and support.
To continue to offer this vital service we need 50 supporters, schools, community groups or businesses to raise £1,000 each to reach our £50,000 target.
