Event Information

This online programme aims to provide continued professional learning opportunities to a range of practitioners across education, health and social care. Each session will run virtually as a half day from 9.30am - 12.30pm and participants are able to book into individual sessions of interest or block book sessions for a discounted rate. All sessions will take place via Zoom.

In this session Dr John McDermott from  Studio III Clinical Services will discuss the role of stress and coping perspectives in an autism setting.  A key element of the approach discussed in the session will be the role of cumulative, systemic stress as a model within which to understand and respond to a child’s struggle to find ways to cope. Moving to a flexible framework where the focus is on the style of caregiver interaction is crucial to achieving change.  This will be considered whilst acknowledging the importance of professional self-care and support for caregivers and teachers so they themselves can cope.

Speaker:  Dr John McDermott, Psychologist, Studio III
