Eileen and Lucy Visit Denmark

On our recent trip to Denmark, Eileen and I were warmly welcomed into a two day seminar hosted by our Danish colleagues. This provided us with the chance to observe, discuss and share comparisons and differences relating to the way the ATLASS model is being imbedded across our services within our respective Countries. We accompanied Dr Michael McCreadie and Dr Mark Wetherall on this visit, both of whom were supporting our Danish colleagues with some additional input around low arousal support. Dr Wetherall gave an informative presentation around the work he has done on understanding the biology of stress at Northumbria University. Mark shared a new approach he has developed, which focuses on how to stop and reflect in order to make a new appraisal of any perceived stressful event and what to do when the perceived threat does not happen. I am delighted to announce that we are now looking forward to working with Mark on a project he is running in relation to cortisol levels and stress responses.

We spent a significant amount of time engaging in mindfulness experiences with our Danish colleagues, joining in the custom of reflective walking, and perhaps most significantly; recognising the importance to stop, think and reflect. We now look forward to the new ways in which we will imbed mindfulness into our own Wellbeing Action Plan here at New Struan School.
