Osiligi Maasai Warriors Visit New Struan

Last week, we had a visit from the Osiligi Maasai Warriors. The group come from villages in Southern Kenya and have been visiting the UK to perform to schools, churches and theatres since 2003.

We were joined by parents and carers for the day to watch the Maasai perform authentic tribal song and dance, as well as their world famous Maasai jumping, which some of our pupils and staff got involved in too! Jason, Jack and Jasmine were all brought up onto the floor to join the warriors in their dancing and jumping.

The performance started off with a traditional prayer and we were taught a Maasai greeting. The group then performed several songs and dances that shared their culture and history. The performance was fantastic and all the pupils, families and staff really enjoyed it.

Afterwards, our pupils showed the warriors around their classrooms and shared the learning they had been doing over the last few weeks on the warriors and their culture.

The group also work in partnership with a small UK charity, Osiligi Charity Projects, which helps to support infrastructural improvements in their local community back in Kenya. Since the charity started in 2010, it has made great improvements to the lives of the Maasai people including the opening of an academy and a small medical centre.

A massive thank you to the Osiligi Maasai Warriors for joining us for the day!
