Event Information
Do you value relationships? Do you like building relationships and see them as a bridge to a better world? At Scottish Autism we believe in the power of positive relationships to change and enhance the lives of the people we support.
If you are a people person and relationships is something that you are passionate about, then why not come along to one of our Recruitment Information Sessions to learn more about the Autism Practitioner (support work) role, who we are, what we do, our values and what makes us different?
You will hear first-hand from our Autism Service staff what the role entails, a parent, an autistic person supported by Scottish Autism and information about our organisation. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and also book an interview on the day. No application form required to join the session and no worries if after the session you decide the role doesn’t look like the right fit for you.
At Scottish Autism support workers are known as Autism Practitioners to acknowledge the specialist support provided and the learning pathway to advanced autism practice is open to all colleagues.
As the leading autism specific organisation in Scotland, we provide outstanding training and are continuously improving to ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service. We even have our own research, external training and consultancy services (Centre for Practice Innovation).
This post is a good opportunity for those with generic support worker experience to specialise but equally for those without experience that have a real interest in autism, building relationships and supporting people are very welcome. Skills relating to supporting others are usually transferrable and we recruit people from a range of backgrounds: from hairdressing to postal workers! Reliability and consistency are important to the people we support. Join us and explore the learning pathway. We are proud that the majority of our workforce have over 5 years’ service and that Scottish Autism nurtures career pathways within the organisation.
Autism Practitioners provide support to autistic individuals to enable them to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. The kind of support our Autism Practitioners provide depends on
the needs and aspirations of the supported individuals. This can vary from learning everyday skills and activities of daily living (self-care, money management, general housekeeping and cooking skills) to accessing their communities and to take part and engage in leisure activities.
We very much value and welcome interest from autistic people and those with personal experience of autism within their family or community. We, like most organisations, provide fully funded support to complete SVQ Level 3 but it’s our sector leading autism training that makes the learning experience outstanding from day one.
