New Understanding Autism smartphone app

We have recently been working in partnership with the Scottish Social Services Council, along with Autism Network Scotland and The Richmond Fellowship Scotland in the production of a new smartphone app, Understanding Autism.

The app provides introductory information about six key aspects of supporting autistic people. You will find it particularly useful if you do not work in a dedicated autism service but want to develop your understanding about how to support people who are autistic.

You can use the app as a reference resource. It gives you short, focused pieces of information along with short videos for easy understanding on the following topics:

  • What makes a good support worker
  • Recognising strengths
  • Environments and the senses
  • Supporting transitions
  • Stress and coping
  • Communication

It also includes links and suggestions of where you can find more information.

Our Practice Development Manager Joanna Panese worked alongside Christine Collingwood from Autism Network Scotland and Frank Slokan from The Richmond Fellowship Scotland to write the content and provide advice and guidance. One of our support workers, Alison Johnson and Neil Barbour, an intern with Autism Network Scotland also contributed to the videos, which are key part of the app.
