Animation Premiere

Assembly this week started with Jason telling us about his weekend. He visited North Berwick and enjoyed spending time at the seaside. He also went to a nearby fish and chips shop where he had some pizza. Marley spent the weekend at her grans, which she enjoyed, but Deborah said she missed her a lot. Freddie made lots of new friends this weekend when he stayed at Charlene’s house. Charlene said he was very well behaved and didn’t chew anything he wasn’t supposed to!

As we are coming towards the end of the month, we discussed how our next Right of the Month will be decided by our newly formed Pupil Voice Group. This will be selected at their next meeting on Wednesday and announced at next weeks’ assembly.

We had an exciting start to ‘Look, Listen’ this week as we watched an animation that Jack made with the support of Square Peg, who runs our animation workshops. The animation, which is set to the song ‘Diamond Heart’ by Alan Walker took ten weeks to complete. You can watch this amazing video here: http://bit.ly/2NnJ5cb

Following this, we had our news segment. In our school news, Ben from Skye class is planning on starting his own hot chocolate stand. We think this will be much needed as we approach winter, so we can’t wait! Tiree class had a successful last week as everyone completed their Daily Mile and Jura had fun celebrating Kyran’s birthday. In Barra class, David went to Greenroutes and had a great day and lastly, in Islay class Jack and Jason went to college and learned about analogue and digital audio and they were happy that the other students and teachers there respected their autism.

In other news, an 11 year old boy was left with ‘horrific injuries’ similar to those inflicted by G-force after a Youtube stunt went wrong. In a video of the stunt the boy, named Tyler, lay spread-eagled on top of the roundabout as another boy spun the roundabout using the wheel of the moped. In business news, shareholders and Unilever, who make products such as Marmite and Dove soap, have said that they will vote against a plan to move its headquarters to the Netherlands. In Wolverhampton, over 2000 fake ‘squishies’ have been seized due to health and safety concerns. Squishies are children’s toys that are made out of foam that have become increasingly popular.

Jack then gave us his Tweet of the Week, which is:

‘BOSS: You’re late again today.

ME (still using the Mayan calendar): We’re lucky to even be here you know.’

Jason then provided us with his Asendo update. He is looking for singers and rappers to be featured on his next album, ‘Scottish by Nature Part 2’. He has asked for people to let him know if they would like to take part. Jason was also excited to announce that his latest track has reached 110 listens on Soundcloud/Spotify. You can listen to all of his music at https://soundcloud.com/asendo-music/tracks.

Following this, Lucy announced that Janet will be with us on a Tuesday instead of a Monday from next week. As this is Janet’s last assembly with us, we signed along to ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra for the last time as this is one of her favourite signing songs.

Jack then sang for us the song ‘If You’re Over Me’ by Years & Years.

We then had a look at our Focus of the Week, which is ‘Included’. This week we will be demonstrating this by all coming together for our Daily Mile and extra class points will be given to pupils who do this.

Our Finer Diner’s Skill of the Month is still to collect our cutlery, and we all practiced the Sign of the Week, which is ‘feelings’.

We had some very special Star Awards to give out this week:

  • We presented our very first 50 Things awards! Ben received a trophy and voucher for reaching the Bronze level. Well done Ben!
  • Our Class of the Week is Skye for earning a whopping 580 class points!
  • David Jackson received a Positive Recognition Certificate for making it a little bit further each day during our Daily Mile and for enjoying Greenroutes.
  • Our Star Baker is Denaun for making a very creative Octopus pizza, which has been very popular on twitter!

After the Star Awards, Liz showed us a special box where we can enter our answers for the ‘Food Picture of the Week.’ Jamie correctly guessed that the previous picture was of asparagus.

Our assembly this week ended with everyone dancing to the song ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, which was chosen by Skye class.
