Back to School

School started back this week and pupils are getting back into the swing of things!

At the first assembly of the new term, we warmly welcomed three new pupils and enjoyed watching a slide show of all that’s been going on this week. Ben did a brilliant job of assisting Jasmine in the assembly, letting everyone know what song was coming next whilst Stephen received a star award for being extra confident this week – well done Stephen!

There is also a new and exciting addition in the school – the Sensory Pod! Kindly funded by Kids Out, The Martin Connell Charitable Trust, The Gamma Trust The P F Charitable Trust and the Cruden Foundation, the sensory pod is a fantastic place where pupils will be able to go to relax, learn and develop skills.

This magic little box creates different sounds when you throw it and can be used in games that allow for learning. For example a pupil might throw the box and the staff member might ask, ‘what animal makes that sound?’

The sensory pod can even be used to tell stories with photographs projected onto one of the walls. When we tell a story the volume, pitch and tone of our voice will be different each time we tell it. Some pupils would benefit from hearing a familiar voice that doesn’t vary in this way. The sensory pod allows staff to choose the same voice and story preferred by the pupil, ensuring it is a calm environment for them to relax and unwind in.

We are very grateful to all those mentioned above for this amazing addition to our school. We look forward to introducing pupils to it over the coming weeks as they settle back into school life.
