Celebrating Music

At the start of assembly this week Lucy showed us a picture of how Marley spent her weekend- sleeping in the sun!

We then discussed our Right of the Month, which is:

‘You have the right to give your opinion’

Jason gave his opinion that he thought the visit from Horse last week was brilliant.

To begin ‘Look, Listen’ this week, Jack played for us the song ‘Ignite’ by his favourite artist, Alan Walker. He told us that Alan Walker will be releasing the song with lyrics on Friday.

We then received the latest updates from Jack at the news desk. A survey of train passengers revealed that Glasgow Queen Street has been voted the most unpopular train station in Britain, with London Kings’ Cross being voted the most popular. Jack suggested that this may be because Queen Street looked more run down, and Kings’ Cross looked more modern, however these opinion may change following the refurbishment of Queen Street Station. Jack then shared that the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii has erupted and destroyed 26 homes so far, with more expected due to new fissures opening overnight. We watched a video from BBC news on this story, which showed some footage from the eruption and gave some facts about the volcano.

Following this, we heard about the butterflies in Birch class. The class have had the caterpillars for a while and they have now gone into their cocoons to turn into butterflies! Once the process is complete we will hopefully all be able to see the butterflies at assembly.

Jason then shared with us what it was like to work with Horse when she visited on Friday to work on music with him and Jack. He enjoyed working on different programmes he had not used before and that the experience was fantastic. Both Jack and Jason worked on separate tracks with her which are still a work in progress but we look forward to hearing them at a future assembly.

Aidan was also excited to show off his ‘super cool’ sunglasses to the rest of the pupils.

Jamie also had some news that he wanted to share with us this week. Three female singers, Christina Aguilera, Florence and the Machine and Celine Dion have released new music for the first time in a few years. He is very excited as he is a fan of all of them.

Jack’s Tweet of the Week was written by actor Ryan Reynolds:

‘I’d walk through fire for my daughter. Well not FIRE, because it’s dangerous. But a super humid room. But not too humid, because my hair.’

Following the news section we all got up and danced along to ‘Reach’ by S Club 7.

Danny was then excited to show us his Thunderbirds Interactive playset which Liam was also very interested in.

Our Focus for the week will be to continue working on our ’50 Things’ and we are going to get some trophies in bronze, silver and gold which will be awarded to students when we make progress on our 50 things.

Our sign of the week this week is ‘cooking’ as we will be working with Liz this week in food tech to create some delicious dishes!

Our Star Awards this week are:

  • Class of the Week: Ash Class who earned a whopping 65 class points last week!
  • Our Rights Respecting Award this week goes to Jack and Jason for writing, producing and recording music with singer/songwriter Horse last week!

We also had two other exciting awards to give out. In the post we received Blue Peter badges for Ben and Aidan for their fundraising efforts with the SSPCA. Well done boys!

Assembly ended this week with the song ‘Bare Necessities’ from The Jungle Book, as chosen by Ash class.
