Closing The Accountability Gap

Today we have published 'Closing The Accountability Gap' in partnership with National Autistic Society Scotland. A report based on the views of over 1200 autistic individuals, family carers and professionals who responded to a survey in 2022. These responses show overwhelming support across all groups for the establishment of a Commissioner to ensure public services are held accountable in relation to the rights of autistic people and their families.

You can read the report here.

Every day we encounter individuals and families whose human rights are being breached as a result of a lack of accountability within the system. All too often it feels like the system works against autistic people and their families, when it should be working for them. They need a Commissioner in their corner. We consider that the creation of a Commissioner is a necessity, and we call on the Scottish Government to develop a sense of urgency on this issue.
