Cornhill Castle are supporting Scottish Autism and have launched a special monthly event.

On the first Tuesday of every month visitors to the venue near Biggar in South Lanarkshire will be able to enjoy an afternoon tea hosted by Scottish Autism. The first afternoon tea will be held on Tuesday 7th May between the hours of 12pm and 2pm.

The afternoon tea will be offered at a reduced rate of £9.95, with all proceeds from the afternoon donated to Scottish Autism.

At Café Kudos, a vocational opportunity, located in Carluke, Scottish Autism’s supported individuals have the opportunity to develop work skills on a safe environment.  This busy Café offers autistic adults with meaningful training opportunities, and to experience being part of a team, working together towards a common goal. This is important for building confidence and further developing social and communication skills.  Taking their services knowledge and experience to Cornhill Castle will give provide Scottish Autism’s supported individuals with another opportunity to add to their skills, where they will be selling their own home baked goods and serving a new set of customers. The monthly afternoon teas are aimed at raising awareness and understanding of autism, fundraising for the charity and also adding to skills and experience.

Meanwhile visitors to Cornhill Castle will have the opportunity to taste lots of delicious home baking, surrounded by the beautiful countryside setting of Cornhill, and at a reduced afternoon tea price of £9.95. Customers will also be contributing to and supporting a great charity. The usual price for an afternoon tea at Cornhill Castle ranges from £32 for two people.

April is Autism Awareness Month and Scottish Autism have launched their #VALUEDANDAUTISTIC campaign to help raise awareness and understanding of autism.

The campaign is centered around feeling valued – a fundamental part of everyone’s wellbeing and self-esteem. The campaign also demonstrates that while autism can result in a range of challenges, autistic people have potential, skills, talents and aspirations.

It’s an ethos which is supported by the team at Cornhill Castle, who have adopted Scottish Autism as their charity partner for the year.

General Manager Neil Dougherty said, “We’re very proud to support Scottish Autism. During the year we will be fundraising, but we wanted to do more, and that is why we have invited the charity to become part of us by hosting monthly afternoon teas. We can provide some essential skills and training, meanwhile our customers will benefit with some lovely home baking. I’m excited to see how this develops and the whole team are very much looking forward to working closely with Scottish Autism.”

It demonstrates how autism services are evolving; enabling autistic people to lead full and enriched lives and become valued and valuable members of the community they live in.  I would also like to thank Cornhill Castle for donating the proceeds of the monthly afternoon tea to Scottish Autism, these funds will be used to help support autistic people and their families across Scotland.’
