Fluffy Visitors
Our pupils have been busy over the past two weeks learning about chicks, while also taking care of some of their own!
After much anticipation, an incubator of chicken eggs arrived at the school but they weren’t eggs for long as the very next day they started to hatch.
Once the chicks started to get fluffy the pupils were able to touch them. Craig especially enjoyed petting each and every chick, making sure they all got attention.
The classes took turns in looking after the chicks, cleaning out their bedding and putting feed into their bowls. The chicks were often sleeping when the pupils went into the room to visit but they would quickly wake up and start chirping, happy to have some visitors. Changing the bedding involved taking all of the chicks out of the incubator and putting them into a cardboard box so the incubator could be filled with new bedding, making it nice and cosy for the chicks.
Euan wasn’t too keen on getting close to the chicks but he did a brilliant job of helping to clear up, watching the chicks from a distance.
The pupils have also been learning about the lifecycle of chickens and have made a memory board of some of the highlights from their stay. The chicks left the school last week and will now be settling into their new home on a free range farm. We were sad to say goodbye to the chicks, they were a great addition to the school!
Some new gym equipment has also been installed in the playground recently and the pupils have been having a go on it. Anna has particularly been enjoying the cross trainer. A big thank you to everyone who has donated to the playground appeal!
