Happy New Year Assembly

Happy New Year from everyone at New Struan School!

The first assembly of the year had us practicing our yoga moves again, helping to stretch out those sleepy January feelings.
Liam pointed out just how relaxing the music was for yoga at assembly. The first yoga pose was the ‘Rock’ position where you would kneel down, sit back and stretch all the way forward, then curl yourself up and tuck your head in front of your knees.
Next, was the ‘Lying Twist’ pose and Caine and Alexander were both very good at this one. After the ‘Lying Twist’, we finished with the ‘Cobra’ where you would lie on your tummy and stretch forward, placing your hands by your side flat on the floor and lifting the front of your body up off the ground.

When yoga was finished, we rolled up our mats and it was time for attention autism.

What was in the bucket this week?

A very shiny, metal spinner that looked like a big bubble the faster it span as it picked up the colours in the room.

A red car that drove all by itself on the colourful circle track that Deborah made. The red car flashed its colourful lights as it drove round and round, very fast.

A white robot that came with a remote control that made the robot move. The robot had blue lights that came on as it went backwards and forwards, turning around, and even looked at the board on the wall too! Alexander did a very good robot impression as well.

An orange light up spikey ball. Everyone had a turn to feel the rubber spikes on the ball and David noticed that the ball was spikey, just like his teeth.

After this, the bucket was then finished.

Deborah placed a large piece of white paper on the floor. At first, it looked blank without anything on it. But Alexander noticed something the closer he got. There were numbers written in clear glue!

Then Deborah brought out some sparkles. David loved the look of the glittery pieces as they tumbled out of the tub and onto the sticky paper.

The glitter and sparkles stuck to the paper to reveal a message...

2020

Deborah explained that because it was a New Year, and you celebrate the New Year with a party, everyone got a party popper each. We had a countdown before we popped the poppers with a BANG!

Everyone noticed the smell in the air after the party poppers had popped. It smelt like burnt matches.

Then it was Look, Listen and Recap.
Barra class went to the pet shop and bought two fish for the classroom. We saw a lovely picture of Alexander picking the fish they all would like. Welcome to New Struan Archie and Fluffy the fish!

Liam was learning about the body and particularly the eye. Another picture from last week showed friends at sensory stories. Reading a book and singing along with the puppets. In the picture was Liam, Alexander, David and Adam. And Kyran was playing with the very cold ice in a bucket.

Last week Caine did very well by developing friendships, and he wrote Jenny a message which said “To Jenny, lots of love and cuddles from Caine. You are my best friend Jenny. I like you.”
Well done Caine, that’s a very nice thing to say to a friend.

Let’s now take a look at the week ahead:

On Tuesday, we have the farm. Wednesday its Drama and Animation with Indie. On Thursday, swimming with Julie and Rebound Therapy and on Friday, music with Janet.

What a wonderful week to look forward to everyone.

Onto the Star Awards, this week we had 5 star awards to give out.

Caine, well done this week for jumping into the pool for the first time, it was very brave. Caine also walked past some dogs in the park. Fantastic work!
Jay got a star award this week for trying custard for the first time and he also enjoyed chicken and gravy for his lunch. Yummy! Well done for trying something new Jay. Caine handed Jay his award.
Another star award goes to Ross for making so much progress and washing his hands before and after his snack. Great job Ross!
Alexander also received a star award for using sign language to ask for juice. Great work!

This week’s star baker goes to…Ross, the shortbread inventor.

Very excellent awareness and engagement in baking lots of shortbread last week Ross. Two star awards for you!

Time to have a song and dance to this Term’s song ‘With a Little Help from My Friends’ by The Beatles. A very fitting song for this great first assembly for the year ahead.
