Looking Forward to Lendrick Muir

Lucy started our assembly this week by showing us some pictures of Freddie and Marley, who met for the first time this weekend and spent some time together. They were a little afraid of each other at first but soon got used to each other’s company.  Freddie gave Deborah quite a scare though as he hopped behind the TV and chewed through one of the wires!

We then discussed in some more detail our Right of the Month which is:

‘You have the right to choose friends and join groups’

Jason suggested that he would like to start a music group and a book group. After the summer holidays we are going to work towards setting up all of our groups.

To start ‘Look, Listen’ this week, Lucy talked about our upcoming school trip to Lendrick Muir. She showed us some of the pictures that were taken during last year’s trip and we talked about some of the activities we can take part in this year, such a canoeing, climbing, crazy golf and toasting marshmallows. We also really enjoyed the King Swing and the Leap of Faith last year so hopefully our pupils will be able to enjoy these activities again this year.

Then it was time to go over to our News desk, where Jason and Jack gave us all of the latest updates. The first story of the day came from the finale of Britain’s Got Talent. Funny man Lee Ridley won the competition this year, with his act ‘Lost Voice Guy.’ Ridley has cerebral palsy, which affects his ability to speak and he uses a voice synthesiser for his comedy act.

We then congratulated Rachel Watson for taking part in the Alloa half marathon yesterday. She received a medal for completing the 13 mile event, which must’ve been exhausting!

Our next story was a friendly reminder that our Fun Day will be taking place this Saturday. Beginning at 10am, there will be a tombola, inflatables cakes, biscuits, Zoo Lab and much more!

Following this, Jack gave us his Tip of the Week, which is:

‘Dance like no one is watching. Because they’re not. They’re checking their phones.’

Jason followed this tip immediately and performed a short, impromptu dance.

Our last news story this week was about some hungry bears in Finland, who have been raiding beehives for honey close to populated areas. Over £143,000 has been paid out to farmers for damage done to their hives.

Jack’s Tweet of the Week is:

‘Not to brag but I finished this 14 day diet in 3 hours and 38 minutes.’

Jason then presented his music news to us. He is just completing the finishes touches to his new album, ‘Better Than Life II’ which will be released soon under his pseudonym ‘Asendo’. He has also released the 3rd single from this album titled ‘Aestas’ (which is Latin for ‘Summer’).

Following our news we had our first song of assembly, which was ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. During the song, we practiced some of the signs we learned from last week’s assembly. After this, Jack sang a cover for us of the song ‘Audio’ by the group LSD.

Our Focus for this week is ‘Responsible’. We are going to put this into practice this week when working on our garden. We have had some ideas on what we can grow in our new greenhouse. Food tech teacher Liz has suggested that we grow some tomatoes and potatoes and Jason would like to try growing some cucumbers. We have also been fortunate to have Adam’s dad donate an apple tree to our garden, so we can grow our own apples! In line with this theme, our Sign of the Week is ‘Dig’.

Our Star Awards this week:

Our Class of the Week is Birch class for earning a whopping 100 points! They have won a cake to celebrate this achievement.
Our Star Bakerthis week is Adam for helping to bake over 100 cupcakes for our upcoming Fun Day!

Our last song of assembly for this week was the newly released single by Asendo titled ‘Aestas’.

To finish our assembly this week, Danny showed us all his firemen figures and fire truck, which included a ladder lift. We explained that this lift can carry fireman to the top of buildings.
