Our Special Visitors

We have a busy assembly this week with some very special visitors! Our Director of Autism Services, Jackie and Board Member, Peigi came by to join in on the fun. Our Health and Safety partner Vince, also brought his dog Coll along to assembly as Marley is not in school today. Coll will be taking over Marley’s timetable for the day and will spend time with the pupils.

Over the weekend Freddie stayed at Emma’s house, where he made friends with her dog Ruby.

We then discussed our new Right of the Month, which is:

‘You have the right to be heard’

This was chosen by our newly formed Pupil Voice group. The group has also sent out a questionnaire about our rights to each class and once they are complete we will discuss our answers in more detail.

We had some more exciting animations to show at assembly today during ‘Look, Listen’. Firstly, we watched Liam’s video about Pokémon, and following this Jamie’s video titled ‘Prank Wars’, which everyone thought was really funny.

Following this, Jack and Jason presented the news, beginning with news from the school. Skye class has made a positivity board called ‘Skye’s The Limit’. Every time a pupil or staff member does something positive, it will go up on this board. In Jura class it is staff member Vicky’s birthday, so we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her. In other news, the company Telltale Games have had a ‘majority closure’ with just 25 staff left. They have cancelled all future games but will finish the final season of The Walking Dead. The company has said that this has been the result of poor sales. In music news, one of Jack’s favourite artists, Sigala, will be releasing a new album titled ‘Brighter Days’ which will be released on September 28th. The album will feature a lot of different artists, such as Paloma Faith and The Vamps. On the same date, Alan Walker will also be releasing the full version of his song ‘Diamond Heart’ which Jack used in his animation that we showed at last weeks’ assembly. In other entertainment news, the BBC drama Bodyguard became the ‘most watched’ programme since Downton Abbey, with 11 million viewers tuning in to watch the finale last night.

Jack then gave us his Joke of the Week, which is:

Why did the coffee file a police report? It got mugged!

We then had a quick ‘Asendo Hour’ update from Jason. He is currently working on his second album ‘Scottish by Nature’ and is considering releasing a mixtape that everyone will be able to listen to next week.

At the request of our special guests, we decided that this week would be the last week (again!) that we sign along to the song ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra. Everyone (including our guests) joined in on this and Jamie showed us some new signs he had learned for this song.

Jack then sang for us the song ‘Happier’ by Marshmello ft. Bastille.

We then had a look at our Focus of the Week, which is ‘achieving’. As part of this we will be getting ready to share our learning, including our animations at our Fayre on October 4th. We are nearing the end of our Finer Diners Skill of the Month, which is ‘collecting your cutlery’. Class points are still up for grabs for pupils demonstrating this. Liz also told us that in Food Tech pupils have made over 100 cakes for our MacMillan Coffee morning. David, Jennie, Jack and Adam all got involved in the baking and decorating.

We had lots of star awards to give out today:

  • There were more 50 Things trophies to present. Aaron received his bronze trophy, Alfie, Josh, Jason, Alexander and Danny received silver trophies and Jack received a gold trophy.
  • Our class of the week is Skye class for earning an amazing 445 class points!
  • The Positive Recognition Certificate was awarded to Ross for joining his peers in Food Tech and experiencing cooking.
  • Our Star Baker this week is Jack for doing such a good job in baking many of our wonderful cupcakes for our coffee morning!

Assembly ended today with a song specially chosen by Skye class- ‘Wake Me Up’ by Wham!
