Scottish Rugby Legend Hastings Helps Scottish Autism Charity Event Raise Thousands

Scottish Autism is celebrating a fantastic fundraising total from the annual golf day, hosted at the Duke’s Course, St Andrews, in partnership with Alloa-based company SG Pro Cleaning on Friday 2nd September.

The company has hosted a golf day for ten years, and this year’s event saw twenty-two teams participating, and helping to ensure a further £13,875 added to the total raised across the years. Over £70,000 has been raised to date. This year’s total was the highest sum raised by any of the golf day events so far.

This year’s event saw a special guest appearance from Scottish rugby legend, Scott Hastings, who not only attended the event, addressed attendees and conducted the auction, but also participated in the SG Pro Cleaning team which won first place overall.

The event was also attended by Scottish Autism’s Chief Executive Officer, Dorry McLaughlin, who thanked participants for their support in raising vital funds which will go towards providing a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) room for pupils at Scottish Autism’s day and residential school, New Struan School, and to provide beneficial therapy sessions including drama, animation, and rebound therapy.

Commenting after the event Scottish Autism CEO, Dorry McLaughlin, said:

"We are absolutely delighted to have raised a record total at the golf day, and are very grateful to our partners, SG Pro Cleaning, for their continued support in hosting this event for the past ten years.

"It was also brilliant to have Scott Hastings with us, who not only inspired the teams before the event, but then took part and won the event before helping us raise such a huge sum at the auction.

"This money will help us to deliver new resources at New Struan School, which will be of enormous benefit to the young autistic people we support."

Scottish rugby legend, Scott Hastings, commented:

“It was a great event and a great format at the Duke’s Course, raising money to help the young kids Scottish Autism support.

“It was a great format and we had such a laugh. I would thoroughly encourage people to enter a team in next year’s event and raise funds to support a great cause.”

SG Pro Cleaning Director, Douglas Smith, added:

“What a fantastic day we had at The Dukes for our annual golf day. It was great how everyone and everything came together to make our biggest total to date.

“A huge thanks to everyone involved and for our teams to contribute the way they did.”

The date for next year's annual golf day is yet to be confirmed but check back on our forthcoming events or follow us on Scottish Autism's social media channels to keep up to date with future announcements.
