Snow Much Fun!

Despite the weather last week, our staff and pupils very much enjoyed the snow- especially Marley! In light of last week’s events, we have decided to have a special snow themed assembly.

Our Right of the Week is:

‘You have the right to play and rest.’

We will be taking advantage of this during the week by taking some time to play in the snow.

During ‘Look, Listen’ Lucy showed us pictures what the school looked like before the snow had be shovelled. The ground was completely covered with a thick blanket of snow!

We then saw pictures of our staff, parents and people in our local community pitching in to help us clear the snow last week. Not only did they help us at the school, but they also shovelled the snow outside our flats and at Balymre. A huge thank you to everyone involved in these efforts!

Cameron also enjoyed playing in the snow, as well as Marley who had fun in his very own igloo! Jamie went sledging and helped dig out his granddads car from the snow. Adam went with his dad Graeme to Kings Park and Aidan made snow angels in his garden!

Lucy then announced that we will be having visit from author Stuart Reid on Wednesday. He will be hosting with us some creative writing workshops and storytelling sessions. He will also be bringing along his books and answering questions from our pupils.

Following this, Jack provided us with the latest news, Firstly he spoke about Oscars. He told us that The Shape of Water, which is a film about a woman falling in love with a sea creature, won Best Picture, with director Guillermo del Toro winning Best Director. Gary Oldman also won Best Actor for his performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Jack then also reported that Sir Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky had ‘crossed an ethical line’ by using drugs allowed under anti-doping rules to allegedly enhance his performance rather than for medical reasons.   Our last news story was to inform students that as a result of the weather, the car park is closed and so taxis will be picking up pupils from the front gate.

Jack also gave us his Tweet of the Week:

We then had a new signing this song this week. We all signed along to ‘This is Me’ from the movie, The Greatest Showman. Following this, Jack performed for us his rendition of the song ‘Helium’ by Sia, David Guetta and Afrojack.

Our Focus of the Week is to be active!

This week our sign is snow.

Our Star Awards this week:

  • Our Class of the Week this week is everyone for pitching in to help clear the snow!
  • Our Right Respecting Award goes to staff member Ashley for coordinating the team effort to clear the snow and get the school ready for our pupils.

This week to finish assembly we stay on theme by singing and dancing along to ‘Let It Go’ from the movie Frozen.
