A Special Visit from Horse

We had a very busy assembly this week following our announcement that we were having a special visit from Scottish singer, Horse!

To start off our assembly this week, Lucy shared with us how Marley spent her weekend. She went on a long walk with Deborah and Ben across the Pentland Hills, and very much enjoyed the wonderful sunshine and weather we have been experiencing!

Lucy then discussed with us in more detail our Right of the Month, which is:

‘You have the right to give your opinion’

We have already begun looking at this in our classes and Jack explained to us that our likes and dislikes of for example, music, would also constitute as an opinion.

Our weekly news feature was then presented to us by Jack, who begun by telling us about the news that Sainsbury’s plan to merge with Asda and as a result, they anticipate a fall in grocery prices.  We were then shown a short video that Aidan had made giving a tour of the school through his own eyes, which everyone enjoyed.  Jack then told us about an evacuation that took place at Melbourne University in Australia. Around 500 pupils and teachers had to be evacuated due to a strange smell, which was presumed to be gas. It turned out that the smell was caused by a rotting Durian in the library, which is an exotic tropical fruit known for its pungent odour! Our last news story of the day was a weather update. Heavy rain, winds and ‘unseasonably cold’ weather has been hitting parts of the UK, with yellow warnings in place for parts of England. Here’s hoping that the terrible weather doesn’t reach us! Jack’s Tweet of the Week is:

‘I’m in the Fitness Protection Programme. Safe from all activities.’

Our news was then followed by everyone getting up to dance and sing along to ‘Reach’ by S Club 7. This song was particularly popular last week and everyone enthusiastically joined in this week too! Jack then sang for us the song ‘So Far Away’ by Martin Garrix and David Guetta.

We then moved on to our Focus of the Week which is New Struan School’s ’50 Things’.  These ‘50 Things’ are goals that we hope to have all of our pupils achieve by the time they leave the school. These include completing activities such as making the bed, tying their shoelaces and writing a letter.

Our sign of the week is ‘music’ or ‘sing’ again in honour of our special musical guest, Horse.

Our Star Awards this week are:

  • Class of the Week: Birch Class who earned 30 class points last week.
  • Finer Diners: Jack and Jason who baked cakes for Fergus and April for her birthday.
  • Our Rights Respecting Award this week goes to our new pupil, Liam to celebrate his first week with us!

Our assembly this week ended with live music from Horse, who performed her song, ‘Careful’. Watch a short clip of the performance:
