Summer Time Fun

We were all super excited for our first assembly of the new term, Lucy our head teacher welcomed us all back to school. We started off talking about our summer holidays and then we welcomed our  two of our new pupils; Kyran and Aran.

Deborah then went on to tell us about Marley and her summer activities, we had all missed Marley so gave her lots of hugs when we saw her. She has had lots of fun but has been sitting on the couch again! Deborah thinks her daughter whispers to Marley and tells her to come and sit on the couch beside her. We also found out it was Marley’s birthday last week and she is five years old!

We heard about what Freddie, our rabbit, has been doing during the holidays too. He got to have lots of sleepovers. Freddie also has his own twitter account where you can follow his adventures: https://twitter.com/FreddieStruan

We then looked at our Right of the Month, which is:

‘You have the right to a healthy life that helps to develop your goals’

Over the course of the month we will be talking about this in our classes and our choice groups before making decisions in assembly about how the whole school can work towards making choices together. We were then lucky enough to see a sneak preview of an animation created by Jack at our animation group on a Wednesday, it was really cool and now a few of us want to attend the group in order to create our own.

This was followed by our news section which was presented by Jack and Jason. They explained how today was the first day we were going to experience our choice groups and that we could choose from a range of activities such as science and photo journalism! We then found out about the lady who was rescued from the Adriatic Sea after spending ten hours in the water due to falling from a cruise ship. We also heard about the funniest joke from the Edinburgh Fringe before ending our news desk section with Jack giving us his Tweet of the Week:

‘I try to find the good in every situation. Wait. Typo. I meant “food”. I try to find food in every situation.’ We all found this funny.

Jason then updated us on his music, which he creates under the name 'Asendo'. He is hoping to be able to release his album soon so stay tuned. Following this, Deborah gave us some clues using sign language on what song we were going to dance to. Jamie guessed it very quickly and had great fun dancing to ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra. We practised our Sign of the Week which is ‘time’ and then realised this linked really well to the song choice as ‘time’ is mentioned throughout this song.

Our Focus of the Week is being part of a group, which we will get to practice today when we split up in to our choice activities.

We had some very special Star Awards this week, as some of our pupils got SQA awards:

  • Ben achieved his Dynamic Youth Award
  • Jack achieved his SQA Award and his Dynamic Youth Award in ‘making a game’
  • Jason achieved his SQA Award and Dynamic Youth Award for coding

We also had Star Animation Awards:

  • Jason, Best Screen Play Writer
  • Jack, Best Art and Music Director
  • Jack W, Best Animator

We found out next week’s Class of the Week will get to choose the song for our next assembly so we all hope it is our class so we can choose our favourite song to sing and dance to. To end the assembly, and before some of us went to take on our Daily Mile, we used our best dance moves whilst singing to Aretha Franklin’s ‘Respect’ and said goodbye to Marley.
