Working Towards the Dynamic Youth Award

Three of our pupils are currently working towards Dynamic Youth Awards. Ben, Jack and Jason from Birch Class have been working hard on their Awards recently and last week at assembly shared an insight into what they have been doing so far. Ben, Jack and Jason had all filmed Q&A videos where they talked about their Award which we all watched together.

Ben is writing a story for his Award called Robot Story, which is based on a game about robots he is also making. He has written over 6,000 words so far and said that writing his story has really helped him because it lets him think about his words and improve his spelling.

For his Award, Jack is working on creating a video game called Mustia, a name he chose because it is an anagram of autism. So far he has created two main characters that both have telekinesis powers and will be working on creating more characters in the coming weeks.

Jason is learning programming for his Award and has recently been getting to grips with HTML and CSS coding. Jason chose this because he thought it would give him good skills for the future.

The Youth Scotland Dynamic Youth Awards provide a framework to support quality work with young people, offering recognition and accreditation for their achievements. The Awards follow a Plan-Do-Review process which enables young people to more effectively recognise and articulate their learning and achievements within different contexts.

At last week’s assembly, we also gave out Star Awards to three of our pupils for some fantastic achievements they have made recently:

Sean was a successful learner when he completed his SQA unit on Number Processes.

Danny was a confident individual when he completed laps around the track.

David was a confident individual when independently crossing the road safely without prompts.

Well done everyone!

We also gave a Star Award to Rachel who we said goodbye to. We wish Rachel the best of luck in her new job.
