Exciting News and Positive Recognition

At the beginning of the first assembly this month, we were delighted to have Deborah and Marley back with us!

Lucy started out ‘Look, Listen’ this week with lots of great news updates. We had a successful Macmillan coffee morning last week, and raised over £100! Some of our pupils were very busy over the last week baking cakes and visited Head Office and Alloa Business Centre to sell them to staff.

We are all looking forward to our Career Fayre, which will be on Tuesday 9th October. The fayre will provide us with the opportunity to meet lots of different people within the community and some of our visitors will include representatives from the police, army and fire brigade.

Aidan would also like us to help collect food to donate to the foodbank in Alloa. Some of the items we are looking for are tinned soups, jam, beans, teas and coffee. All items are due by 10th of October and will then be taken by some of our pupils to the foodbank.

We then had more news updates presented by Jack and Jason. In our other school news, Barra class have been enjoying watching ‘Attention Autism’ every morning. This helps the students get engaged with looking and listening to Mairead and seeing her bring items out of the bucket. There is also an item which records Mairead’s voice which when played back helps the students with their communication skills. In Jura class it is Claire’s birthday, so we all sang happy birthday to her. On a sad note, Kyran has broken his foot when kickboxing – we hope it gets better soon! In Tiree class, everyone managed to complete their Daily Mile and they have also been enjoying using the gym equipment.

In other news, Tesco bank have been fined £16.4m following a cyber-attack that affected customers in 2016. Last Tuesday, a tiny baby hedgehog (known as a hoglet) was born at the Scottish SPCA national wildlife rescue centre in Fishcross. The hoglet has been affectionately named ‘Piglet’.

Jack’s Joke of the Week is;

‘Thank you student loans, for helping me to get through college…. I don’t think I can every repay you.’

Jason then gave us is Asendo Hour update. He has released a 5 track mixtape and played us a track called Komodo and features Einterlude and Lyd-Z. The track can be listened to here on Soundcloud.

Following the news, Deborah introduced to us a new signing song, which was ‘Sky Full of Stars’ by Coldplay. We all practiced signs such as ‘sky’ and ‘stars’, as well as using signs we already knew.

Jack then sang for us the song ‘Diamond Heart’ by Alan Walker.

Our Focus of the Week is ‘Healthy’, which ties in to our Finer Diners Skill of the Month, which is ‘making a choice.’ This week we are going to look at making healthy choices, choosing good snacks such as fruit and having the right portions sizes.

Our Sign of the Week is ‘stars’ which we were able to practice a lot of during our signing song.

Before our Star Awards this week Lucy announced that at the end of each term we will have a special ’50 Things’ assembly where will hand out all of our ’50 Things’ awards.

Our Star Awards this week are:

  • Our Class of the Week is Jura for earning a huge 500 points.
