Gartinny Wins National Award!

The awards were judged by a panel of leading experts in the field of autism and seek to recognise and reward services and professionals who are leading the way in innovative autism practice and making a real difference to the lives of people with autism. This is the second year in a row that we have won the award for Most Creative Community Project, which was last year claimed by our Fife Services for their production of The Tree and The Abbey.

The awards night was particularly special for one individual from the group, Peter Griffith, who picked up the award on behalf of the rest of the Gartinny team. He was accompanied by Tony Monir, Autism Practitioner, who heads up the Conservation Project.

The judges commented: “This is an excellent scheme which provides a great response to their service users’ requests, using their interests in a way that benefits both social development and the environment.”

Jackie Latto, Director of Autism Services at Scottish Autism said: “We are absolutely thrilled that the Gartinny Conservation Project has won this year’s ‘Most Creative Community Project’ award! Everyone who is involved in the group works so hard and are truly committed to local conservation so it is fantastic to see them get this kind of recognition.”

The Gartinny Conservation Project has become an integral part of the conservation community since its creation two years ago. Working on a range of different projects from growing and plating wildflowers to working with other organisations such as the Scottish Badgers to record local badger populations, the group play an important role in the community. For everyone involved, winning this award is a wonderful achievement and the team couldn’t be happier.
