The year-long programme included more than 20 activities such as growing plants from seeds and cuttings, plant care, harvesting and composting with more than 80 hours of work undertaken at Gartinny Nursery and the training centre.
Each individual made a portfolio to show their progress throughout the course. They also had to choose other activities such as cooking and keep-fit to help develop new interests.
The Nursery presented the four successful horticulturists with a cake to congratulate them on their hard work and efforts throughout the year. Chris Tate from Gartinny said:
“The service users and their parents are really proud of their achievements. It was a great opportunity for them to learn new skills as well as practice their communication. They hugely improved their knowledge and understanding of horticulture and were motivated to get involved in the local community. It goes to show just what individuals with autism are capable of achieving.”
Gartinny Nursery will be running a plant sale on Saturday 31st May and Sunday 1st June where some of work will be on show. Members of the public are invited to come along.
