The Tree and The Abbey Returns to the Stage
The Tree and The Abbey at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year
The play, which won the National Autistic Society’s Most Creative Community Project Award, tells the social history of Fife narrated by a tree, which stands in the grounds of Dunfermline Abbey. The story features a range of characters from the community and a number of tragic and enriching events from Fife’s history.
The play was written by Fife-based Autism Practitioner, Scott Daly, who also directs the performance. The group of service users will take on key roles in the play with some of our staff members taking on supporting roles alongside them. Those service users who don’t want to take to the stage are also involved in the production; helping to create the set, making costumes and handing out flyers.
Speaking about the play, Scott commented, "The input from our cast is what really makes this play work so well, with each of them giving a piece of themselves in their performance. It all amounts to a really unique piece of theatre.”
After performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year and our staff conference, the cast are looking forward to getting back into costume and onto the stage! The Tree and The Abbey will be showing for one night only on the 3rd October at Rothes Halls in Glenrothes at 7pm. Tickets are priced at £5 (£2.50 concession) and can be purchased by calling our Fife Services on 0845 300 9273.
