Celebrity Radio Star Supports Christmas Campaign

Scottish BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Ken Bruce is backing a new campaign for Scotland’s autism charity, Scottish Autism.

The charity is looking for Christmas Stars to help them reach everyone living with autism in Scotland. Christmas Stars will look out for fundraising and awareness raising opportunities in their street, village or town to give Scottish Autism a Christmas presence and help raise funds for the charity. Calls to the advice line are increasing every month and Christmas can be especially difficult.

As the dad of a young boy with autism, Ken Bruce understands.  He says: “Scottish Autism’s Christmas Star Campaign is a great idea as it will help to highlight the challenges facing families with autistic children during this festive time while also raising much needed funds for the charity.”

He goes on to say: “Christmas is a family affair in our household, although our autistic son doesn’t really understand the full significance of the day and what it’s all about. His presents don’t always get opened and often the tape around the boxes is of more appeal to him than what’s inside!   But he really enjoys our Christmas lunch with the extended family and loves the social occasion.   No poppers at the table though – they’re too noisy for him.   He tolerates the change in routine well but I know for many other ASD children, it can be a very difficult day, so we’re very lucky.”

Get in touch if you think you can help or nominate a friend or relative who you think would be the perfect Christmas Star to fundraise for Scottish Autism.  This might include someone who sings in a choir, works at a school or nursery, works in a pub or in a local business and could organise a raffle or quiz night, or likes making  Christmas goodies or crafts which could be sold at a Christmas market.

It doesn’t matter how big or small the fundraising venture is, just let Scottish Autism know what you or your nominee are up to in your area and we will send you a fundraising pack to help you raise awareness and funds for Scotland’s autism charity.

Let Scottish Autism know what you would like to do this Christmas by calling 01259 720044, following us on Facebook or emailing fundraising@scottishautism.org.
