Woodend Resource Base officially opened by Cowdenbeath MSP, Helen Eadie
Woodend offers a contemporary, efficient and light environment and features a large life-skills kitchen/dining area, therapy room, sensory room, social hub and other multipurpose areas for up to 13 individuals. The flexibility of the new building brings advantages when creating personalised support plans for each individual and in promoting independence and choice.
The Cowdenbeath MSP, Helen Eadie officially opened Woodend and was welcomed by Alan Somerville, CEO of Scottish Autism and his colleagues Jackie Latto, Director of Autism Services and Charlene Tait, Development Director. During a tour of the new building she met a number of service users including 27 year old Michelle Bates from Dalgety Bay who visits the resource base six times each week.
Speaking during her visit, Helen Eadie MSP said: “We are delighted to have a long and productive relationship with Scottish Autism in Fife. Their newly designed Woodend Resource Base is an innovative and interactive facility for adults with autism in the local area and it underlines the charity’s commitment to enhancing the lives of those who live with the condition. Working in partnership with the local authority, Woodend delivers essential support services within the community and provides a great model of best practice in autism care for other regions of Scotland.”
Alan Somerville, Scottish Autism CEO, said: “Woodend is the first purpose-built day service for Scottish Autism, providing a range of flexible and meaningful services that meet the needs of each individual.
“Along with the education support we provide for children and young people, our adult services enhance individual quality of life and enable people to become successful learners and active participants in their local community.”
