Strategic Approaches to Continuous Practice Improvement and Training in Autism

Online Events

Home > Events > Online Events > Strategic Approaches to Continuous Practice Improvement and Training in Autism

Event Information

Scottish Autism work in partnership with BANG (Borders Additional Needs Group) and the IJB (Integration Joint Board) by supporting the Autism Community Co-ordinator role and the implementation of the autism strategy.

Within the strategy, the need for training in autism is recognised. Our community engagement and the work we do directly with autistic people and their families in the Borders also indicates that a strategic approach to training a range of professionals is needed.

We will outline our Autism Practice Improvement Programme (APIP), sharing examples of how this has transformed organisations. Additionally, we will provide details of our online, in person and bespoke training all of which focus on transferring theory into practice.

The speakers

Charlene Tait has worked in the field of autism for over thirty years. In that time, she has been engaged in direct practice and service development. She was Lecturer and Course Director in Postgraduate Autism studies at the University of Strathclyde and has been involved in a number of national strategic initiatives.

Charlene’s time in autism began in 1990 with Scottish Autism (then Scottish Society for Autistic Children), she returned to the organisation in 2011 to take up the post of Director of Development and is now Deputy CEO.

Her main areas of interest are in family support and enabling quality of life and quality lifestyles for people across the autism spectrum.
Joanna Panese has 12 years’ experience in the third sector through direct practice, service development and management roles. At Scottish Autism, Joanna has worked alongside autistic people in supported living and day services, and has managed services that provide vocational and skills development opportunities.

In her current role, Joanna leads on the development of practice both internally and externally providing practice and service development support across Scottish Autism, and partner organisations. Joanna’s key interest lies in creating environments and communities that enable autistic people to flourish and that recognise their voice.
