Advice Line Plus

Scottish Autism is delighted to receive funding from The Scottish Government to allow us to provide much needed reassurance, guidance and support to autistic people and their families across Scotland during these uncertain and challenging times.

Thanks to this funding we have extended the availability of our Autism Advice Line, by increasing our operating capacity to seven days a week, 8am to 8pm.  We are all too aware of the impact this crisis is having on the emotional, physical and mental wellbeing of autistic people and their families. This funding will enable us to reach out and support people at this challenging time.

Advice Line Plus is an extended offering to our Advice Line service and includes the following:

Extended hours to Advice Line

Our Autism Advice Line will now operate 7 days a week between the hours of 8am and 8pm.

Our Autism Support Team is made up of a small group of advisors that aim to provide an individualised response to each enquiry as quickly as possible.

Alternatively you can email advice@scottishautism.org and an advisor will be in touch as soon as they can.

Please note that the advice line is not an emergency service. For anything urgent, please consider calling your local Social Work department, NHS24 on 111 or the Samaritans on 116 123

Call for a Chat

At Scottish Autism we understand that this is a challenging time for autistic people, their friends, family and carers. The Covid-19 outbreak is changing life for all of us, and this can be both challenging and stressful. Our autism support team are here to provide emotional and practical support during this time.

We understand that many people maybe feeling isolated from love ones or due to social distancing aren’t able to connect with people like they would usually. Our Chat calls are designed to offer a support, conversation and signposting to anyone who needs a listening ear.

To request a call from one of our Autism Advisors, please fill out this form.

Alert cards

Since the UK government changed its guidance (See FAQ 18) around exercise for autistic people it has come to light that some autistic people are being challenged when out for exercise purposes, of course for some this is causing anxiety and distress.

We have therefore created a Covid-19 Alert Card which allows for personalisation to your own situation and can be completed either by yourself or with the help from a carer.

Download your Covid-19 Alert Card.

Live chat

You can speak with one of our experienced Autism Advisors via our new Live Chat function here on our website.

The chat will appear on the bottom right hand side of the page.

Facebook groups

Facebook groups have been created to provide a safe space for autistic people, families and carers to network, share their experiences, challenges and advice in a community setting. These groups will be monitored by our Autism Advisors and will be able to support you if this is required.

These groups are:

Scottish Autism Affinity - a safe space for Autistic people to network.
Ask an Advisor
Parents and Carers

These groups are private and only members of the groups can see what content is shared and posted. Please read the guidelines within each group when you join.

Autism Advice Q&A

Autism Advice Q&A sessions run on a firtnightly basis to help to provide as much support as we can to autistic people, their families and carers during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Live sessions will take place every second Thursday evening at 7pm, lasting approximately 30 minutes, and one of our Autism A
dvisors will respond live to questions submitted by the public. To submit your question, please email events@scottishautism.org.

Advice Line Plus Series

Looking after your mental physical and emotional health at this time is hugely important, and this will look very different for all of us.

We will post a series of short videos that focus on a topic that we gather as a talking point for the autistic community, parents and carers. These topics will follow on from the resources we have created that will hopefully support you to manage your own or somebody you support’s mental, physical and emotional health during this time.

Meet our Autism Support Team, a small, dedicated team of experienced autism advisors.

If you are autistic, a parent or carer of an autistic individual or a professional looking for advice, guidance or support you can speak with a member of the team 7 days a week between the hours of 8am and 8pm.

Contact our Autism Advice Line by calling 01259 222022 or by e-mail: advice@scottishautism.org including details of which council area you live in.
